Good recommendation, I will look it up.

Another I recently read in the same vein was "The Life you've imagined" by Kristina Riggle. It follows three young women whose lives have not quite turned out the way they had "imagined" and follows their story during a summer visit when the three are reunited in a small Michigan town.

Keep writing Kate!

Great post. Maury and I laughed the other day at a devotion that I shared with him. It was a story of a woman who was in line at a coffee shop behind a small elderly woman. The elderly woman got her coffee and was heading out the door. She had her purse on her arm, keys in one hand and coffee in the other and was struggling to open the door. The other woman felt she needed to step out of line and help her, so she did. It was a beautiful story until she opened her mouth. The elderly woman thanked her for being so kind and she said, "Well I love Jesus, and he wants me to do this for you." I just thought it was a little forward. She could have just said, "My pleasure."

Kenzie,

That is wonderful advice! You should visit my new blog, a spin-off about this topic!

I've also started my journey with NFP, and I am sooo thankful I did. I think it is such a valuable tool that many women don't know about or they are too afraid to consider.

Kate, as a registered nurse I have found that many women have the same questions, but usually just follow what the doctor recommends. I commend you for taking pride in your body, being your own advocate and learning/researching resources. I have been married for four years, took birth control pills for 9 years and have since decide to stop. I follow natural family planning, condoms and vfc film to help prevent pregnancy. This requires you to be in touch/ in tune with your own body. Take care! Any questions?

So, we don't know each other. But I love your blog because you're so honest...and I really just like the way that you right. Anywho, it's odd to me that I would choose to post this time because I'm not married and while I do think about the future and sometimes this question of whether or not to use birth control, it's not an immediate issue. However, I've read some blog posts similar to this. I don't know if you've ever read posts by Sharon Miller on www.sheworships.com, but it's always nice to know that it's not just you whose going through something or has questioned something.
Here are some posts that may help lead you to more information:

I like how she thinks about this stuff. I hope this can get things started.

I actually read Eat Pray Love this summer and I liked it, mostly because I felt like it was a modern day fairy tale, complete with the prince charming and happily ever after.
Of course, I'm eighteen and fairly naive, and the idea of throwing my dead-end life out the window is appealing in theory but I'm sure that if I were actually faced with the decision I'd be scared witless into staying responsible. It sure is nice to live vicariously through Gilbert.
I feel like Eat Pray Love is the middle-aged woman's version of Twilight. It's for people who want spirituality and culture and all that jazz to spice up their dull lives. That's why so many people are in love with it.

I really respect that you didn't like it though. I can totally understand why. And the ending wasn't that great either. Honestly, I began to lose interest during the last thirty pages or so as well.

Oh my goodness. I am SO with you on "Captivating"!!! That book...I bought it because I read the Sacred Romance, Waking the Dead, and Journey of Desire and enjoyed them, but, talk about not being able to finish a book! It infuriates me!

As for Eat, Pray, Love...this was a few years ago, so I'm a little hazy on the details, but I just remember being very turned off by her description of life in Bali. Which is where the "love" part comes into play. And it was just...I just couldn't connect, or care about her character.

I wouldn't feel bad about not being able to finish it. I'm a firm believer that there are many more worthwhile books in the world to be reading, instead of feeling bad about any one you don't like!

So what was the real hang up for you? I'm thinking about giving it another shot, maybe another 10 chapters, but I really don't have any interest in what the author is saying. I consider myself pretty open-minded, but I'm just not a fan. Maybe if, personally, I felt like I was on some expedition to find myself then I could forge a connection.

It was kind of like that for me with "Captivating." Everyone around me was reading it and devouring every word, but it didn't resonate for me. I think I only read a couple of chapters.
